I take chocolate, a cup of earl grey and my aching back up to my little writing room where I can pretend that I have all the time in the world to sink into ‘The Grapes of Wrath’, to look outside the window to the fading light. Three sleepy bodies are breathing heavily. My husband works in his studio. This night is gloriously quiet.
