Here are some photos from the Isle of Sheppey, the setting for Murmuration, and also a few from the fens, the setting for Christopher, Running. Enjoy!
The holiday park on Sheppey where Murmuration was set. I stayed here one October and it was marvellously bleak!Looking down the road towards Shellness. This is the way Suzie runs back from visiting her mum Lily. I loved the eerie light and the way the light bounced back from the tarmac.Looking down the coast towards Shellness. The front at Leysdown. Again, beautifully bleak when I visited in October!Looking down the coast towards Shellness. The hamlet of Shellness where Lily lived in Murmuration and where Fee and Jay decide to launch from…Nature at The Swale National Nature Reserve.Looking down beyond Shellness towards The Swale National Nature Reserve. An old map of Sheppey.Looking across the Swale towards North Kent.Looking across Elmley Nature Reserve towards the Sheppey Crossing. Elmley Nature Reserve. The static caravan which belongs to Christopher in Christopher, Running. This caravan was actually on my uncle’s land and used as an office for his horticulture business (then it was left abandoned for years, hence the state it’s in here!) Me and my 2CV in the fens. I must be 17 or 18 in this photo. I can’t remember why I drove all the way from Shropshire to the fens in the 2CV – there must have been a reason! My Grandad and Grandma’s house. This is the house where my dad grew up but it has now been demolished. In Christopher, Running, this is Marjorie’s house. More 2CV shenanigans in the fens. This is the field that I imagine Jim taking that sip in…My dad, brother, grandad, grandma and me as a baby in the front garden of their house in Tydd St Mary (which is Marjorie’s house in Christopher, Running.)
