#23abandon

What would it have been like,
being fully god and fully man,
and to feel that your father
had abandoned you?
Maybe that is why Jesus trembled
in the garden;
he knew the price
of walking this path.
All the world’s sin,
hurled upon his back,
the weight of it, unthinkable.
But in that darkest of moments,
where God, even God had left him,
where the sky turned black
and the thunder roared,
peace was making it highway among us.
The life of his,
lamb-white,
laid down,
so we could cast our sin upon him
and make our unsteady way
to the father.
