Gratitude is a choice

When I was writing these poems, I was really conscious that they were coming across as ‘happy’ in a really difficult time for a lot of people.  But gratitude isn’t saying that your life is perfect and that you don’t have anxieties and worries, it is CHOOSING to remember and hold on to the positive to get you through.  I was struggling most days with lack of head space, anxiety, boredom, claustrophobia, and I missed family and friends, but in choosing to frame the memories through gratitude, we can arm ourselves against fear and anxiety. We put our stake in the ground and we say this is what I’m thankful for and we affirm that life is GOOD (even if we’re struggling). I have a feeling we’re going to need to put this practise into our lives for this winter and the coming weeks and months.

Gratitude will arm us against depression, it will fill our minds with good things so there is less room for the bad, it will remind us of all that we have.
