Voice at the Window: Why I wanted to write this book

It’s day 3 of my Kickstarter campaign and I thought I’d tell you a bit about WHY I wanted to create this book of gratitude poems.

The project grew itself into something bigger than I had imagined. It started off as a project for lent (40 days) but then, in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the national lockdown, I kept writing.  It felt like a very anxious time, with many worries about jobs, and health (mental and physical), and my way of coping was to start small: one poem every day for as long as I could.

One poem that searched for the good not the bad. And gratitude can do wonderful things for all of us no matter what situation we are in: it illuminates what has been right there in front of us all along, it arms us against depression, illness, and low self-esteem, it fills our minds with positive thoughts so there is not enough room for the bad.

And it’s not about pretending bad stuff isn’t happening, it’s making a choice to hold on to what is good. Like this little bean, looking for the helicopter that was passing overhead, with her toes curled up like that for balance. 💕
