Writing about Type 1

I am a writer and I have written, pondered and grieved Type 1 a lot over the years. I write to process my emotions, I write around a subject when I don’t quite know what it is that I want to say. But the truth is that type 1 invaded our lives so thoroughly when my daughter Ivy was diagnosed at 2 and a half that how could I not write about it?  It redefined every aspect of our life, our meal times, our nights, our day trips, our dreams.  But it will not overcome us because something that a friend reminded me today was that diabetes is not Ivy, it’s not who she is, it’s not her destiny, it’s just something that she carries with her.  She has a whole life ahead of her and diabetes will not slow her down or stop her.

These poems are available in my book There You Are, a collection of 34 hand lettered poems about motherhood.  You can get it at my etsy shop:   https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LittleBirdEditions
